The Deeper Dive: L-Theanine & Caffeine

Why do you drink energy drinks or coffee? Is it part of your morning ritual? Do you use it to keep up with the hard work of being a parent? To help you crush it at the gym? To get you to focus on your work or help with your studies?

Throughout my life I’ve tried countless energy drinks and supplements on days when I was wanting a pick me up, or to help motivate me to get into the gym and through my workouts.

In law school, I leaned heavily on caffeine to help me study for exams & meet project deadlines. But it was a fine line. One cup of coffee would give me a little bit of energy, but not enough to keep me up. Two or three cups would definitely keep me up, but then my heart would start racing and I’d get jittery, anxious and wouldn’t be able to focus on the task at hand. And don’t get me started on the crash, headache and nausea that would often follow. Can you relate?

When it comes to my workouts, I’ve tried endless types of supplements and energy drinks to help motivate and drive me through a workout. With names like “power”, “fuel” and “jacked” you would think these would be a no-brainer. Unfortunately, it was kind of the opposite for me. Oftentimes I wouldn’t feel stronger or have more endurance after taking these products, or even worse were the times where the artificial ingredients would lead to nausea and intense crashes leaving me exhausted after my workout. For a slight boost in the gym, I would sacrifice my productivity for the rest of the day.

I tried all kinds of supplements to help fill this gap, but with little or no success. That was  until I discovered the combination of L-Theanine and Caffeine. At this point, I knew I was onto something truly special. But that left me with an even more challenging question. Now that I know what I want, how do I get it? Even with all of the products on the market, I had a hard time finding a drink that not only combined green tea extract based Caffeine with L-Theanine, but also one that was 100% natural, USDA Organic, Non-GMO, low in sodium, sugar-free (but without aspartame), zero calories, that was actually good for me and that tasted great. I don’t know about you, but if a product falls short of these characteristics, I simply do not want to consume them.
